Apple Urges EU to Revise Digital Markets Act, Citing User Experience Concerns
Apple has formally requested the European Commission to repeal or reform the Digital Markets Act (DMA), arguing that the regulation degrades user experience and disrupts product functionality. In a submission to Brussels, the tech giant warned that the DMA exposes EU customers to new risks and complicates the seamless integration of Apple devices.
The company highlighted delayed feature releases—including live translation with AirPods and iPhone Mirroring—as direct consequences of DMA compliance requirements. Apple insists these mandates force interoperability with non-Apple platforms prematurely, slowing development cycles.
While advocating for an independent European agency to oversee regulatory adjustments, Apple faces steadfast opposition from EU officials. The Commission maintains that the DMA is essential to curb monopolistic practices among tech 'gatekeepers,' enforcing measures like open app store access and competitive fairness.
